Oxide ceramics
Oxide ceramics have a vast number of application areas and are strong and reliable materials for customers that work in extreme and demanding fields.
Technical ceramics are often used in components where chemical resistance is required, components that see a lot of wear, electrical insulators, components that must withstand high pressure, high temperatures or where very low outgassing is permissible.
Examples of areas where oxide ceramics are used:
- wear applications in machine industry.
- welding pins for automotive industry.
- pistons for medical applications.
- process industry.
- oil and gas industry.
- high vacuum applications.
- aerospace technology.
- forming tools for non ferrous metals.
- forming dies for aluminium etc.
- feed throughs.
Our Spanish supplier Nanoker uses various techniques to create ceramic blanks, the most commonly used to apply pressure and form the powder is cold isostatic pressing (CIP). The working fluid in CIP is water at room temperature. Some advantages using CIP method – in contrast to conventional standard powder compacting – are the ability to obtain thinner walls after green machining and the capability to handle larger workpieces.
Ceramic sintering process is an important key in creating specific material structures and bringing out properties. Sintering is from definition compacting and forming a solid mass of material by either heat or pressure without heating the material to the point of liquefaction.
“Green machining” relates to the machining of a ceramic in the unfired state. This process is used whenever its possible since machining of ceramics, after firing, is very expensive. We take advantage of green machining since it lowers the cost for the production process. Machining of the ceramic material can be achieved upon request. Properties of ceramics composition varies from the application and could lead to different situations where hard machining may be needed – something we also offer.
We at KG-Fridman, with several years of experience within oxide ceramics, will help you find the best possible tailor-made oxide ceramic solution for your application. We specialize in custom made parts and manufacture according to your drawing with short production time and quick deliveries.
